Student awards for leadership & innovation

RRU’s student awards consider more than just academic excellence; recipients are selected based on personal achievement, leadership and community engagement, and financial need. There are several award types that provide RRU students the opportunity to realize their dreams, contribute to their community, and go out into the world equipped to make a difference. You can fund an award at RRU on an annual basis or by creating an endowment.

Awards can be based on financial need, academic merit, and/or leadership and community service.

Annual fund

An annual contribution supports the award on a year-to-year basis. The funds provided are restricted to the award and spent in full each year.

RRU requires a minimum commitment of $2,500/year for three years to establish a new annual award.

Endowed fund

An endowment supports the award in perpetuity. The investment income generated by the capital is used to provide the award each year. The fund builds for the future, enabling the award's value to increase over time.

RRU requires a minimum commitment of $25,000 for an endowed award.

Awards

A source of student funding that can be based on a variety of academic and non-academic criteria, including financial need or academic excellence, and often includes a preference for leadership or service in a community, etc.

Award is a broad term that can include fellowships, research grants, medals, plaques, prizes or other types of recognition and more.

Scholarships

A source of student funding that is provided based on outstanding academic achievement. The primary purpose of a scholarship is to recognize excellence in a specific subject or group of subjects. Disbursement usually involves a competitive application process.

Bursaries

A source of student funding that is provided based on demonstrated financial need. The primary purpose of a bursary is to provide students with a supplemental source of income that – when added to other sources of income – will defray educational expenses.

Developing an organization that honours diversity, fosters inclusion and is equitable and accessible is imperative to ensure the success of our learners. With your support, we'll expand and complete curriculum, and service enhancements to optimize cultural safety and inclusivity across our campus.

Indigenous initiatives & programs

At RRU, our reconciliation commitment runs deep, as we implement an Indigenous learning framework that touches every aspect of our work. Your support will help us activate this framework by creating curriculum that includes Indigenous principles and history, growing education and engagement throughout National Indigenous Peoples Month, and commissioning Indigenous art for our campus spaces.
