Eligibility

You're eligible to study abroad if:

You have completed at least one full-time term at Royal Roads
You have a minimum cumulative average of B (75%) or a 3.0 GPA
Your account at Royal Roads is in good financial standing

Academic credit

You can earn credits for the courses you take abroad, with approval confirmed before your departure.

Winter and Spring exchange: September 30
Fall exchange: April 1

Complete the Outbound Student Exchange application.

In your Letter of Motivation, share your story and ambitions. Be sure to address:

Why is studying abroad important to you?
How will this experience enrich your life both now and in the future?
In what ways will you represent Royal Roads University as a global ambassador?
How will a student exchange support your academic and career goals?

Don't forget to review and sign the Letter of Understanding.

We’ll notify you if your application progresses to the next step: nomination.

Research and gather information on the courses you're interested in taking abroad, then review your selections with the Program Head.

Consider these key points during your discussion:

Will the courses be eligible for credit, and if so, how many?
How might this impact your program completion at RRU, and are there steps to minimize any potential delays?

Complete and submit the proposed completion plan to the Global Education Coordinator. If you make changes to your course selections after approval, notify the Global Education Coordinator.

You have a few more steps to take before you board your plane:

Visa and passport requirements
Check the visa requirements for your destination country by visiting the country’s embassy website. The Study Abroad team is unable to provide guidance on specific visa requirements. Ensure your passport is current and valid for the full duration of your time abroad.
Royal Roads forms
Submit these forms to the Global Education Coordinator before you leave:
- release of liability agreement
- emergency contact information
Tuition and fees
You will pay tuition and fees to Royal Roads University. You'll receive an invoice, which should be paid before you leave for your study abroad experience. You may need to pay some fees directly to the partner school.
Housing
Housing options vary by partner schools. Speak to your partner contact to learn about your options.

You will have international travel assistance through International SOS. You can purchase travel insurance through Royal Roads' partnership with Guard.me.
