Our priority, your opportunity

Campus spaces

  • The West Shore campus
  • Improvement to gardens & grounds, including the Japanese Gardens and The Farm at RRU
  • The Bloom Castle by the Sea

Preserving our unique campus for future generations.

Support initiatives that see RRU as a living classroom for exploration, research and learning.

Royal Roads University is the only university in Canada located within a national historic site, boasting over 20 acres of formal gardens and a century-old castle at the centre of 565 acres of forest, meadow, foreshore and designated agricultural land.

West Shore Campus

At RRU, our strength is in meeting people where they are, online and in-person, at every age and stage of learning. With your support, we're launching a new campus, on a beautiful four-acre location in downtown Langford, one of the fastest growing hubs in Canada.

The West Shore Campus is a first-of-its-kind collaborative post-secondary institution in the heart of the West that will specialize in labour-market responsive, innovative undergraduate and upskills programming to boost post-secondary transition rates in the region.

Japanese Gardens

For more than 100 years, the Japanese Gardens at RRU have been a peaceful and free oasis for more than 50,000 visitors, including ex-cadets, alumni, students, staff, faculty and community members, to enjoy.

With your support, we are advancing a multi-phased full-scale restoration and expansion of the Gardens. This includes the development of a fully functioning teahouse and adjoining garden, a new entrance gate with a mikoshi room, a Zen garden, a cherry blossom community area and bonsai garden, washrooms and a gift shop, and upgrades to pathways and waterways.

The Farm at RRU

In 2021, we broke ground for The Farm at RRU, a living lab for research, teaching, learning and community engagement, and a cultivated space for significant food production to benefit students and community members. The Farm at RRU transforms 5.26 acres of agriculturally designated land into a Giving Garden, a Market Garden, an Indigenous Medicine Garden and a Polyculture Orchard with irrigation throughout.

Your support will help to sustain essential on-site infrastructure and human resources, expanding food production and teaching, research, learning and engagement opportunities for generations to come. Donor support will also fund the restoration of the Glass House, one of the oldest heritage greenhouses in Canada.

The Bloom Castle by the Sea

In 2024, RRU proudly accepted its largest gift to date – the Bloom Castle by the Sea, which includes two co-located Salt Spring Island properties formerly owned by the late conservationist Susan Bloom.

With support from our on-island partners and donors, our vision is for this space to be a dynamic community-based hub on Salt Spring Island offering a rich array of land-based learning and research opportunities, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community and academic programming to fuel a thriving future focused on regenerative sustainability.
