April is Earth Month at RRU

Royal Roads is celebrating our favourite planet this April.
Join us for Earth Day events throughout the month! From in-person stewardship sessions, to a film screening and a creative outdoors event -there's so much on offer. In addition to events happening at RRU, there are other ways to learn more and engage. Registration and more information about each offering can be found below.

On Earth Day - April 22nd
Earth Day Litter Clean 1 – 3 pm; on Sooke Road - Join PICK (Promoting Involvement for Community Kleanup) Colwood for litter removal on Sooke Road. Litter pick up will focus on both sides of Sooke Road from the Aldeane intersection as far as the welcome to Colwood sign, and from the intersection at Adeane as far as the Metchosin intersection. Meetup will be at the Aldeane intersection. To sign up for this event, visit Volunteering | City of Colwood. Webinar - Down Syndrome in the Era of Climate Change 7-8pm, online - Research has shown that marginalized groups, including those with Down syndrome, are more vulnerable to the negative impacts of climate change. Join DSRF's Director of Communications + Sustainability Glen Hoos and Sustainability Ambassador Nika Zondag for a discussion on how climate change impacts people with Down syndrome – and how the Down syndrome community can both advocate for our needs and contribute to solutions. Silent Disco, Climate Talk and Park Cleanup: Nancy Prevost Maurice, one of RRU's amazing changemakers is hosting a free park clean up, climate talk and silent disco with her business, the Nulla Project, and the support of the Neighbourhood Small Grants program. Join this jam-packed Earth Day with events including a Banfield Park “Beach” clean up at 4:00pm, a Climate Talk at 5:30pm, and Silent Disco from 7:00 to 8:30. Greater Victoria's City Nature Challenge - Join nature lovers to document the amazing biodiversity in the region! Check out the Greater Victoria’s City Nature Challenge project page to join this citizen science challenge and check back as we record all the biodiversity we find.
- April 25 – 28 - Take photos of plants and wildlife in your backyard, local park and natural areas within the capital region, and upload them to iNaturalist.
- April 29 – May 4 - Join the community on iNaturalist.ca by identifying your photos and those of other participants.
