When the British Columbia government passed the Royal Roads University Act in 1995, it created the university’s Board of Governors.
The act states the university’s Board of Governors needs a range of representatives. The president of the university stays on the board as long as they are president. The rest of the elected and appointed members hold their positions for one to three years.
Board composition
The board is composed of:
- the president
- a professor, elected by the professors
- up to six persons appointed by BC’s Lieutenant-Governor
- a student, elected by the students
- an employee who is not a professor, elected by the employees of the university who are not professors
- up to two people who are not employees of the university and are appointed by the board
Each governor on the board votes on board decisions. The chair also acts as the university's chancellor. Everyone on the board has to follow the rules set out in its code of conduct.
