Eligibility

Vanier scholars at Royal Roads University pursue doctoral studies in the social sciences and humanities. They are outstanding students from either Canada or around the world, and are recognized as leaders in their fields of research and in their communities.

RRU can nominate one Vanier CGS application to the National competition once every three years.

Applications from meritorious self-identified Indigenous applicants may be submitted above and beyond our institutional quota. A qualified applicant must identify themselves in the spring before the deadline so that we can assist in developing a strong application as we do for the normal quota competition. We must also have this lead time to request the additional quota be activated on the university's nomination portal.

How to apply

In years where RRU has a nomination allocation available, a short-form competition will be launched in the spring to seek a potential Vanier Scholar. Eligible candidates who have accepted admissions, or are enrolled in year 1 of an  RRU doctoral program will be emailed the "Call for Applications". Should the selection committee identify a strong candidate amongst applicants in the short-form competition, that one student will receive assistance with the full application.
