Join us on April 16 for an insightful webinar featuring Disaster and Emergency Management faculty members, Dr. Michelle Hamilton-Page and Dr. Robin Cox, who will share their insights on how equity-focused approaches can reshape the field.

This session builds on a transformative fishbowl conversation between faculty and graduate students who participated in a course on the Human Dimensions of Disasters, presented at the International Transformative Learning Conference in September 2024. The course challenges traditional, hierarchical approaches to disaster and emergency management — such as the Incident Command System—by exploring more horizontal, equity-focused methods.

Through transdisciplinary learning, critical self-reflection, and an examination of blind spots in behaviors and decision-making, participants will engage in a thought-provoking dialogue on the intersections of social identity, power, and vulnerability in disasters. By incorporating perspectives from critical and feminist theory, this session aims to disrupt dominant narratives and foster a more self-reflexive practice among disaster management professionals.
