Assessing Scope 3 GHG emissions from RRU business-related air travel
Dr. Kool was granted Research and Professional Development funds for a research project to meet Climate Action plan’s goals by measuring domestic student air-travel GHG emissions.
I recently completed a study of Scope 3 business-related air travel greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for RRU faculty, administration and staff., noting that we should be able to reduce the amount of air travel so as to meet the Climate Action plan’s goals of a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030. However, RRU is dependent on many students travelling long distances for relatively short on-campus programs and we have no idea as to the emissions due to either domestic or international student travel. This project will offer a preliminary accounting for domestic student air-travel GHG emissions for 2019.
