Women to women research for economic empowerment in Uganda

Dr. Jones was granted Internal Grant for Research funds for a Feminist Participatory Action Research project on Ugandan women-owned enterprises and their success over numerous challenges.

Most women-owned businesses in Uganda are very small and are not financially robust, but there are highly successful, sustainable women-owned enterprises established by “’driven-by-necessity’ entrepreneurs [who] are determined to succeed despite a lack of financial capital and access to enabling services” (African Courier, 2019, n.p.). Greater understanding of how these women established their enterprises would greatly benefit other entrepreneurial women. This Feminist Participatory Action Research project will engage a cohort of Ugandan women in research that investigates practices, processes, and experiences that have enabled some Ugandan women to be highly successful entrepreneurs so that that knowledge and insights can be widely shared.
