Women executives in Canada: An appreciative inquiry
Dr. McDonald was awarded an Internal Grant for Research to study how women executives addressed and overcame challenges and what skills are necessary for women to be successful in management roles.
Women in executive leadership roles, specifically in the hospitality and tourism sectors, have successfully obtained top positions in a field that is an essential economic driver in Canada. This research is an exploration into their success and the discovery of pathways they suggest to others. Using an Appreciative Inquiry methodology, this vitally important business sector's women leaders discuss topics surrounding their successful pathways. Topics include how women executives addressed and overcame challenges, what essential knowledge, skills, and education are necessary for women to be successful in top management roles, and recommendations for the future women leaders. The outcome of this research includes the implementation of both educational direction and professional direction in this vital sector and can be used to guide and inspire young professionals in their education and future career progression.
