Under siege: The impact of supervisor abuse, co-worker bullying and customer incivility on disempowered frontline service employees
Dr. Jorgensen used Internal Grant for Research funds for a research project that explores disempowered groups of frontline service employees and how they experienced workplace stressors.
The aim of this project is to explore how disempowered groups of frontline service employees (FSEs) experience abusive supervision, workplace bullying, and customer incivility, and how these experiences impact on their mental and physical wellbeing. Qualitative virtual interviews and videos will be conducted with 16 FSEs (women and persons of colour in particular) who have experienced these workplace stressors to develop a conceptual model on the antecedents and consequences of spiraling workplace disempowerment. Preliminary findings will be used as the foundation for a SSHCR Insight Grant application and for a submission to a special issue in Gender, Work and Organization.
