Trauma-informed Transitions Training for Kinship Caregivers
Axe used a Victoria Foundation Adoption & Permanency grant to enhance trauma-informed transitions training for kinship caregivers, thus facilitating positive outcomes for children in their care.
Literature shows that children in kinship care are likely to have better outcomes than children raised in foster care. Legislative changes prioritizing community connections, and aging foster caregivers, are expected to place pressure on the demand for kinship caregivers (KC). Trauma-informed Transition Training for KC (TTTK) plays a pivotal role in the success of kinship placements, aligning with these priorities.
TTTK will build on the existing Foster Parent Support Services Society (FPSSS) training by repositioning foster caregiver Trauma-informed Transition Training (TTT) to meet the unique needs of KC. TTTK will be informed by literature, focus groups, and interviews with KC. KC trained in creating trauma-informed transitions will be better equipped to facilitate positive outcomes for the children in their care.
