Trauma-informed Transitions Training for Caregivers
Axe used a Victoria Foundation grant to enhance caregivers’ trauma-informed and culturally sensitive strategies for child and youth transitions, through Trauma-informed Transition Training.
In March 31, 2022, 5,037 BC children and youth were in care. Every child in care experiences a minimum of two transitions: coming into and leaving care. Transitions may be from foster home to family, another foster home, community (aging out), or adoption. It is essential that transitions be trauma-informed and culturally sensitive; Trauma-informed Transition Training (TTT) is key.
The project's purpose is to expand the online TTT module which was prototyped in March 2022. Foster Caregivers (FCs) will expand their understanding of transition strategies, connect with peers in a dedicated community, and share information that contributes to successful transitions. Caregivers trained in creating trauma-informed transitions provide the best care possible and improve outcomes for the children and youth.
