Towards ‘Environmental Reconciliation’

Dr. Takach received a Research and Professional Development grant for a project that examines communication that stimulates environmental protection and Indigenous reconciliation in Canada.

This project explores how interweaving arts-based research (“ABR”) and Indigenous ways of knowing (including Traditional Ecological Knowledge, collectively “IWOK”) can help to create communications to encourage environmental protection and Indigenous reconciliation in Canada and abroad. This application covers initial research costs towards a literature review and media scan, namely the cost of hiring a graduate research assistant to identify: first, scholarly literature in which ABR and IWOK may actually or potentially intersect; and second, examples of such intersections in the practice of environmental communication. This research will ground a larger study including interviews, framing analysis, and a documentary film.
