Competition Policy Report by Navarro

APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) meeting.

In February 2020, the latest research project completed by Juan Navarro, associate faculty at the School of Business at Royal Roads University, was released on the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) website. This report includes a comparative analysis of the competition policy provisions in a number of comprehensive and state of the art Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) that can contribute to improving economic integration and prosperity across the Asia Pacific region and beyond borders. The trade pacts analyzed by Navarro to complete this study were the CPTPP, the USMCA, the CETA, and the agreements signed between the European Union and Singapore, Vietnam, and Japan respectively.

Navarro’s report was endorsed by ABAC members during his last meeting held in Australia earlier this spring and it was sent by Dato Rohana Tan Sri Mahmood ABAC Chair 2020 to Mr. Hairil Yahri Yaacob, APEC SOM Chair for his reference and use as a further contribution by ABAC towards the implementation of the Lima Declaration work program.

Navarro’s report is expected to be shared with Senior Officials of the 21 APEC economies and contribute to moving forward in the discussion and solution of competition policy issues applied to international trade and investments.
