Presentation at the International Communication Association Annual Conference: Tell the stories in contexts — intercultural communication in the museum space

Dr. Du was awarded an Internal Grant for Research for a research project that explores intercultural learning and cultural empathy through the improvement of interactive museum tour design.

How to improve visitors’ experiences in museum galleries to encourage intercultural learning and developing a sense of cultural empathy? This research project closely examines the developing process of an interactive museum tour, to shed lights to understanding on how improving the tour design could affect the visitors’ museum experience and learning. It reveals that reflective encounters with cultural differences within an interactive museum space can provide a deeper understanding of ethnic identity. From a practical perspective, it suggests museums provide well-designed programs for the foreign visitors to improve intercultural learning in the museum space.
