Sara Walsh is a specialist in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation. As a practitioner, Sara is passionate about community-based disaster strategies and projects that take a whole of community approach to engagement and understanding. Sara’s academic interests are in politics, policy change, hazard and risk assessments, and disaster social vulnerability.
Experience
Sara has worked in the field of disaster risk management as a researcher and practitioner since 2005. She has experience in municipal, provincial, and the non-profit sector. She currently works as a Disaster Risk Reduction Manager overseeing DRR integration into a large Canadian disaster recovery operation. Sara completed her PhD at Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK in 2017. Her research focused on the politics of integrating disaster risk reduction (a new policy direction) throughout the Government of Nepal.
