Business

Karl-Eric Brière has taught at Royal Roads University since 2004 in undergraduate and graduate programs with a focus on strategy and international business. On three different occasions the graduating MBA learners gave him the “Residency Instructor who Inspired and Challenged us the Most” award.

Born in the countryside of Québec, he completed internships in Richmond (Virginia), London and Budapest while working on his undergraduate studies. In 1991 he moved to Hong Kong and lived there for almost ten years before moving back to Montréal. He now lives in Victoria, where he divides his time between enjoying life with his family, teaching and being involved in various entrepreneurial endeavours.

Experience

Brière started an agency in Hong Kong that sourced materials used in the production of toys and children’s books. From there, he moved on to coordinating the export and sales of children’s books through the establishment of distribution joint ventures in China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and the Philippines. After a decade in Asia, he returned to Montrèal to work at Tormont Publications. Initially, his responsibilities centered on the acquisition and development of new book titles as well as collaborating on co-editions with Asian and European publishers, and later became director of operations. In February 2003, Brière co-founded Simple Dream Publishing, a boutique publishing house specializing in home lifestyle titles, stationery and other gift items, which he manages to this day.
