Royal Roads University is inviting the world to study English with us, online.

The university today launches the Global Learning and Language Centre, an expansion and re-envisioning of its language education services.

The centre is now accepting applications from English language learners in Canada and around the world. You can learn more and apply here.

The Global Learning and Language Centre programs are all online at this time, in response to the needs of students worldwide during the pandemic.

Expert online instruction for students worldwide

Students receive the same high-quality instruction online as they did in the face-to-face classroom with added benefits. Some examples are easier access to instructors, innovative ways of interacting with classmates from around the globe, access to a wider range of materials and resources, and ongoing training in digital skills necessary for the future workplace.

The centre will offer in-person language education in the future with an expanded suite of options, focused on global citizenship and the development of transferable skills to help students succeed in their personal, academic and professional lives.

“If you are a student who needs to learn English, or improve your spoken or written English, we are here to help you succeed,” says Royal Roads President and Vice-Chancellor Philip Steenkamp. “It takes courage to learn a new language and, in the future, to consider studying far away from home. We honour that courage and invite you to join us on an adventure of learning.”

The centre brings together and expands the university’s previous language education services, the International Study Centre, formerly operated by university partner Study Group, and the International Contract Training Unit. By merging these two services, the university streamlines its services and supports for students in university pathway programs, short-term English programs and customized programs for individuals and groups from around the world.

A track record of success

For more than 10 years, thousands of students have learned and improved English in Royal Roads language programs. And while English-language training is offered by many institutions, Royal Roads University has been a leader in online education for more than two decades. As a university where most classes are routinely held online, the university’s faculty and staff are experts in quality online education.

One of those experts is Dr. Zoë MacLeod, who leads the Global Learning and Language Centre team and was recently named Associate Vice-President, Professional and Continuing Studies at Royal Roads University. MacLeod and her team have a proven track record of helping Royal Roads students achieve success, no matter their previous educational background or where they are in the world.

“I am thrilled to be working with the team of educators we have brought together for the Global Learning and Language Centre,” MacLeod says. “They have extensive experience in helping students learn English, both face-to-face and in online environments. They care about their students’ success. And they understand how to provide students with the strong academic foundation required to thrive in degree programs across the globe.”
