Royal Roads students in need can now apply for emergency assistance

Students at Royal Roads University experiencing emergency financial pressures will benefit from $140,000 in emergency financial assistance from the Province of British Columbia.

Royal Roads will receive and distribute the funding from the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training. This provincial contribution will significantly bolster the university’s emergency funding program.

Students from British Columbia financially struggling due to the economic effects of COVID-19 can apply for this emergency support by contacting Student Financial Aid.

Students from other Canadian provinces and international students are eligible for emergency financial support through funding from Royal Roads’ own emergency bursary program. These students can also contact Student Financial Aid.

Students can apply for emergency funding to help them continue their academic programs when facing financial hardship or other emerging needs directly related to the impact of COVID-19 on student life.

“Our government is taking steps to ensure post-secondary students get some emergency support so they can focus on staying healthy, meet their educational goals and finish their semester,” says Melanie Mark, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Training. “We heard from students who are facing extremely difficult situations, and we’re moving quickly to ensure they have access to immediate financial relief.”

“I encourage Royal Roads students to apply for help as soon as they need it. The university has emergency funds available for students from around the country and the world. Our team is here to help,” says Royal Roads University President and Vice-Chancellor Philip Steenkamp. “We are grateful to the Province of BC for this funding, which will go a long way to addressing the immediate needs of BC students struggling financially due to COVID-19.”

The university’s emergency funding program is financed by donations from friends, alumni, faculty and staff of Royal Roads. The program has distributed more than $50,000 to students in need in the last fiscal year.
