President Steenkamp with Dr. Slick: Are you earthquake ready?

Disaster and emergency management is a big part of what we do Royal Roads – not only in preparing our people for safety, but also in helping to create the leaders who respond to the increasing number of catastrophic events around the world.

The Great BC ShakeOut earthquake drill is this Thursday Oct. 20 at 10:20 a.m.

So this week I took the opportunity to speak with Assoc. Prof. Jean Slick about why it’s so important that we take 20 minutes out of our day to practice our “Drop, Cover and Hold On” and evacuation procedures.

Dr. Slick has been an expert advisor for BC’s catastrophic earthquake preparedness. She has also experienced several earthquakes and has a long history as a leader in disaster response in Canada and abroad.

I know I learned something new about how I can better prepare. I hope you do too.
