Online harassment causes harm in real life

The information age held so much promise when the internet was new: a place where anyone could find research, information and leading thinking about issues and complex problems.

Now, with online anti-social behaviour (defined as bullying or harassment in response to posts about work or research) becoming commonplace on most social media platforms, researchers and academics are facing the very real-life problem of online harassment from platform users.

Royal Roads Assoc. Prof. Jaigris Hodson, Canada Research Chair in Digital Communication for the Public Interest and partners from the Toronto Metropolitan University’s Social Media Lab recently hosted an online workshop for students and faculty to discuss the issue.
