Fresh from his first residency in the Master of Business Administration program, Don Coleman shares his top three reflections on an “intense, inspiring and energizing” two weeks on campus.

My residency was “packed with thought-provoking conversations, deep reflection, and growth. It was also tough,” says Coleman, who works in Victoria for Island Health as a cloud architect (that’s a person in charge of managing a company’s cloud computing plan).

He says he feels a strong sense of purpose working in the complex field of healthcare technology.

"I chose an MBA because I want to formalize my business and leadership skills to better tackle the many challenges facing healthcare now and into the foreseeable future."

Coleman's key takeaways:

📚 Ask for help early and often

It’s amazing how much better things go when you reach out. Plus, what you learn might just help others too.

💡 Have fun and put yourself out there

Discomfort is temporary. Although, it will be less temporary if you put your hand up when the professor asks a rhetorical question about who likes being uncomfortable. 🙋‍♂️ >> 🤦‍♂️

🌟 Seek out the right people and resources

For one of our projects, we connected with Indigenous Education, Student Services and Academic Services. Their guidance was unique and invaluable. All credit to my awesome teammate William for the idea!
