Climate action job skill development gets $235K boost
In partnership with the Business + Higher Education Roundtable, and with support from the Government of Canada, Royal Roads University’s Career Learning and Development has launched the Career Innovation Project. The project creates a campus-wide work-integrated learning (WIL) ecosystem of initiatives, opportunities and networks that will empower RRU students with skills to address and transform the future.
The initiative will equip students with career skills that support Canada’s transition to a net-zero economy as well as help to advance RRU’s climate and sustainability commitments by engaging students, faculty and staff in conversations with industry about today’s biggest climate action opportunities and challenges.
The benefits of the new offering will be widespread, encompassing all students enrolled in an academic experiential learning course. This includes students across all faculties in courses ranging from applied research, co-op education, field practice (practicum or field study), internship and industry projects.
Campus-wide consultations have now taken place to learn about the different applied or experiential learning course structures and how best to integrate additional services. The information gathered in the consultations will help to create a student support framework that will include industry events, career conversations, industry outreach and opportunity development.
This project is made possible in part by project collaborators 4VI and WestShore Chamber of Commerce.
