Christie on Russia-Ukraine: how global community should respond
As the Russia-Ukraine conflict enters into its third month, Prof. Ken Christie, head of Royal Roads’ Human Security and Peacebuilding program speaks on ticker NEWS about the devastating human and economic impact the war, offering insight into what else can be done to help end the conflict.
Here’s some of what he had to say:
“I think, in some ways, we have to make sure that the countries surrounding Ukraine and surrounding Russia become more and more democratic and stop these kinds of dictatorships from existing and stop them from developing,” says Christie. “For instance, the Hungarian dictator Victor Orban has actually said that he didn’t want to allow the energy supply to stop flowing into Hungry from Russia, so if the European Union can persuade these people to come on their side, and they are making a lot of efforts to do this, I think we will see some progress.”
