Branch out and submit your poem to RRU's Springtastic Poetry contest

As the days grow longer, the warmth of the sun fills me with the promise of spring – a time to revel in the beauty around us and find hope at a time so many of us need it. Throughout the year, I find hope in many places – poetry being one of them.

In celebration of World Poetry Day, March 21, I invite you to enter our Second Annual Springtastic poetry contest.

Last year, I learned we have an incredible community of poets in our midst and I can’t wait to see what you write again this year.

The contest is open to everyone – students, staff, faculty, associate faculty, alumni, contractors and friends of Royal Roads.

Here’s how it works:

  • Theme: Forests and trees. (Be as creative as you like with the theme!)
  • Length and format: Keep submissions to one, single-sided page. Size 11-12 font. Any line spacing. Please refrain from putting any identifying information on your poem.
  • Deadline: Submit your poem online by 11:59 Pacific Time on March 9.
  • Categories: This year, we’ll have three winners! One each will be selected from the following groups: 1) RRU students, 2) RRU employees (staff, faculty, contractors), and 3) RRU alumni and community members.
  • Prize winners: Winners will be announced on World Poetry Day and World Forests Day, Friday, March 21 and will receive an RRU writer's prize pack, available for pick up on campus, including an RRU hoodie, notebook & pen, and more!

We’re excited to welcome three resident poets to judge the competition: MA in Higher Education Administration and Leadership student Ali Blythe, Master of Global Management alum (and last year’s runner up) AJ Joshi and Associate Vice-President of External Relations Erin Limacher.

I invite you to bring creativity to this contest because we know creativity is not just a luxury – it is essential to transforming our world.
