Monitoring Trends in National Household Surveys and Energy Use
Dr. Das used an Internal Grant for Research for a project that examined national household surveys to understand Canadian residential energy use to inform environmental management practices.
Many countries conduct national household surveys to examine variability and trends in domestic energy use. In Canada, the Households and Environment Survey (HES) and Energy Use Supplement are used to examine the environmental behaviours and practices of Canadian households. Given current sustainability challenges and issues such as climate change, these surveys have the potential to inform current and future environmental management practices. This study will highlight Canadian residential energy use and will compare results with the domestic energy use of other countries. A systematic review of survey instruments across countries will also be conducted to assess the measures themselves.
