Globalink Research Awards provides research grant to support travel costs for Canadian senior undergraduate and graduate students to conduct a 12- to 24-week research project at a university in a Mitacs partner country.

Eligibility

  • Must be registered as full-time senior undergraduates, graduate students, or postdoctoral fellows at a Canadian university and remain as such throughout their Globalink Research Award. Postdoctoral fellows may apply if their date of graduation from a PhD program is no more than 5 years prior to the proposed start date of the research project
  • Cannot undertake a research project at an institution where they have previously completed a degree
  • Cannot undertake a research project in a country where they hold citizenship (unless they are a permanent resident or citizen of Canada)
  • Must be the legal age of majority in Canada (18 years of age or older)
  • Must meet travel requirements for their intended destination, including visa and/or immigration requirements and associated documentation
  • Cannot hold more than one Globalink Research Award per academic lifetime
  • Cannot have previously held a Mitacs-JSPS Summer Program award

Note

  • Students are primarily responsible for setting up the opportunity. Mitacs' GRA website provides instructions and helpful tips on getting started, as well as funding, eligibility, and program guidelines. A Mitacs blog post outlines three ways to find an international professor.
  • Students cannot undertake a project at an institution where they have previous completed a degree.
  • RRU's faculty supervisor must be eligible to supervise graduate students and can hold Tri-Council funding.

How to apply

Applications are accepted anytime; however, Mitacs suggests applicants apply approximately 10-12 weeks prior to the start of hte project to allow for:

  • Adjudication of applications
  • Filing of appropriate documentation
  • Completion of university travel abroad protocols
  • Travel and accommodation arrangements
