Emergency funding
Believing in the power of education and helping students in need, the staff, faculty, associate faculty and students of Royal Roads University have created and donated to the Howard Dorrance Staff Legacy Bursary, with the generous financial support of Gloria Dorrance in memory of her husband, Howard Dorrance, who dedicated a lifetime of service to education. Mr. Dorrance was an officer cadet (UNTD) and consequently spent his summers at Royal Roads for training. After he acquired a B.A. in history from Sir George Williams University, Mr. Dorrance obtained a Master of Education in Administration at McGill at the beginning of his 24-year career as an elementary-school principal.
Understanding that unforeseen circumstances arise during study, this bursary is intended to address critical financial need outside the regular cycle of awards to a maximum of $2,000 for students actively enrolled in the final year of their program, pending availability of funding. There is typically enough funding to assist one or two students each fiscal year.
Eligibility
- enrolled in the final year of a degree program
- financial need is a result of an unforeseen circumstance (i.e. tuition, books, and regular predictable living expenses do not qualify)
- has exhausted all other financial resources
- progressing satisfactorily in the program
- has no outstanding debt to the university

Complete the Emergency Funding application and submit to RRU's Financial Aid and Awards office.
Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis and the selection committee will determine the appropriate type of emergency funding to offer, depending on individual circumstances and how much funding is available.
Allow roughly three weeks for the application to be reviewed and funding issued, if approved.
