Final Phase: Indigenous Health Leadership Research Initiative

Dr. Hartney received an Internal Grant for Research for the Indigenous Health Leadership Research Initiative, funding was used to complete meetings and presentations on the project.

The proposed activities comprise the final phase of the CIHR funded Planning and Dissemination project, Indigenous Health Leadership Research Initiative, which is due to be completed by March 2019. This project involved bringing together leaders from regional health authorities, the Provincial Health Services Authority, and the First Nations Health Authority, with Elders, knowledge holders, and community members from Indigenous communities in BC, to engage in dialogue concerning how to move forward with culturally appropriate mental health and substance use research. Dialogue meetings have now taken place in all regions; the final phase of presenting the preliminary report is underway. Funding is required to support travel to two remaining communities in the Interior (Kamloops) and on Vancouver Island (Saanichton). In addition, funding is requested to attend and present at the Canadian Psychological Association Annual Convention in May/June 2018.
