Expanding SSHRC funded project: - Child Rights Education in Diverse Global Contexts and Times of Crises - A decolonizing, participatory action research project with educators, children, and community members in Canada and Uganda – to Kiryandaongo district
Kathleen Manion and Shelley Jones was awarded an Internal Grant for Research for a project supporting educators’ impact on furthering education on children rights across the globe.
This proposal seeks to expand a current five-year, SSHRC-funded decolonizing, participatory action research project which asks: what processes support educators in different global to achieve impactful child rights education that empowers children to learn about and exercise their rights, particularly during times/situations of crises? We will draw upon the voices of children, educators, families and communities, to seek their unique insights into how efficacious child rights education can impact children's empowerment when contextualized. Currently our project sites include Western Canada, rural Southwestern Uganda, and a refugee settlement with a large Sudanese population in Northern Uganda; with this funding we would include an additional refugee settlement in the Kiryandaongo District in Northern Uganda.
