At RRU you will likely hear Land acknowledgements being spoken at the start of meetings, presentations and events. This is a important practice and one small way we can all contribute to truth and reconciliation by affirming the past and present home of the families of these Lands and honour the practice of respectful acknowledgement of their deep ties to it.
We recognize that this practice can be fairly new and perhaps daunting as we all want to do things in a good way. This workshop is designed to support participants in understanding what land acknowledgements are, why we make them and how to take on that practice in the best way we each can in this moment.
During this workshop there will be:
- a presentation to go over the foundational information around land acknowledgements at RRU
- an opportunity to walk these lands with local Elders/Old ones with expert knowledge of local plants
- a space to create your own unique land acknowledgement with supportive feedback
This event will be hosted at Sneq'wa e'lun (Blue Heron House) on September 14th from 1:00 to 3:00.
Supplies will be provided. Please feel free to bring your own lunch and please wear appropriate shoes to walk a rugged and potentially muddy path.
