The family of Eileen Glavin established this bursary to honour her determination. Glavin was born in England in 1921 to Irish immigrant parents. During the Second World War, she enlisted with the Royal Air Force and worked in the top-secret code-breaking operation led by Alan Turing, centred at Bletchley Park. After her brother Patrick was killed in Germany just weeks before Victory in Europe Day, her father brought most of the family home to Ireland. Glavin stayed in England and married an Irish RAF member. After emigrating to Canada in 1957, she worked a variety of jobs as she raised four sons, and later served the family of the Rebbe Feuerstein as a nanny, helping to raise eight more children.

The Eileen Glavin Bursary supports students with financial need who have overcome a personal challenge.
