Developing a Theory of Change for a Research Program to Improve Cancer Care for Patients from Rural and Remote Communities in BC
Dr. Heykoop was awarded Research and Professional Development funds for a research program focused on cancer care disparities for adult patients in the context of rural and remote communities.
In Canada, disparities exist along the cancer care continuum for adult patients from rural and remote communities. In February 2018, I applied for a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR) Scholar Award to support 75% of my time to develop and lead a research program focused on understanding and improving cancer care for adult patients from rural and remote communities in BC (see figure below). Partners include: Island Health, BC Cancer, BC Ministry of Health, BC SUPPORT Unit, Royal Roads University, and patients. I will use PDP funds to bring research program partners together to develop a theory of change for my research program.
