Determining institutional supports for the scholarship of teaching and learning in Chinese universities

Dr. Hamilton received Research and Professional Development funds to explore the extent to which Chinese faculty members are supported in engaging in scholarship of teaching and learning.

In this workshop, International Baccalaureate (IB) educators will discover what authentic learning is and why it is important in leadership education. They will examine the 10 characteristics of authentic learning adapted from Reeves, Herrington, and Oliver (2002) in the context of designing rich, meaningful, and relevant tasks. As well, participants will have an opportunity to share examples from their current teaching practices of learning activities that mirror the kinds of complex leadership challenges found in today’s IB schools. Finally, participants will apply their collective knowledge and experience to the re-design of some sample learning activities while taking into consideration the 10 characteristics recommended by Reeves et al. (2002).
