Immigration & residency

Immigration advising

You can get immigration advising and information from Student Services in presentations, workshops and one-on-one appointments. Have a look at our application tip sheets and IRCC application guides for more help with the immigration permits and visa applications.

Our immigration advisors are Regulated International Student Immigration Advisors and Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants who are members in good standing of the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants

Immigration advisors can advise on:

  • study permits
  • co-op/internship work permits
  • post-graduation work permits
  • temporary resident visas and electronic travel authorizations
  • permits and visas for a student’s spouse and/or dependents

Immigration advisors can't complete applications or represent students to IRCC.

Immigration advisors can't provide support or advice on:

  • permanent residency (e.g., Express Entry or BC PNP)
  • citizenship options
  • permits not related to student status
  • immigration documents for other countries

Contact an RCIC or immigration lawyer with any further questions or for assistance with permanent residency.

Visit the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants for information on the scope and responsibilities of RISIAs and RCICs, including the Code of Professional Conduct and the complaint process.

Your responsibilities

As an international student, you are responsible for maintaining your status in Canada and following the conditions of your immigration documents.

For more information visit Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

As a Designated Learning Institution in Canada, Royal Roads University is required to report to IRCC on international student enrolments and academic status. Visit the IRCC website to learn more about the compliance reporting and student enrolment status options.

Pathway to Permanent Residency info sessions

Throughout the year, we invite Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants and immigration lawyers to give general information sessions about Pathways to Permanent Residency. Information about these presentations will be emailed to students and posted here.

Virtual Q&A sessions for PR Pathway are available on the IRCC website and on a private YouTube channel. These presentations are designed to enhance learning and provide additional support. To get the most out of the virtual session, it is strongly recommended that you watch the video before attending it. Register here to join.

For more general information on permanent residency and opportunities to work after graduation, visit the IRCC website.
