Comparative approaches and perceptions of reconciliation.
Dr. Madan used Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council funds to study comparative approaches to reconciliation globally and perceptions of reconciliation in Canada.
Despite the significance of reconciliation globally, little research has extended to this subject-area, and few Indigenous communities have been asked about their perceptions. This proposed study will thus seek to elicit perspectives of reconciliation to specific Indigenous peoples, and what mechanisms have successfully been implemented to confront redress. The first study looks at comparative approaches to reconciliation globally. The second study looks at perceptions of reconciliation in Canada, according to six Indigenous nations. Together, these studies will elicit perspectives about what relational outcomes might be meaningful in the reconciliation process, and what mechanisms have successfully confronted societal redress.
