Chinese Canadian perspectives: Eight years lucky in leadership mobility?
Deb Linehan received Research and Professional Development funds for a case study of the 34 Chinese Canadian leaders and the barriers to career progression of these individuals.
This study proposes to investigate the career progression of Chinese Canadians in leadership roles in a Canadian Bank over an eight-year period. The researcher completed a case study of 34 Chinese Canadian leaders in 2014 and found evidence that organizational bias, based on cultural factors, was a barrier in the career goals of these individuals. The organization is interested in a follow-up study to determine if progress in EDI goals have helped Chinese Canadian employees in career mobility or if recent #Asian Hate (Zhang, 2021) bias is thwarting their inclusion efforts.
