Children’s right to a healthy environment

Dr. Manion received Internal Grant for Research funds for a research project to advocate a child’s right to a healthy environment to align into a wider international child rights framework.

The international child rights framework has enhanced, promoted, and protected children’s rights and wellbeing, but it was not built with an understanding of the catastrophic environmental issues currently facing the planet or the impact on children. This research project will capture young people’s thoughts on the role young people can have on shaping the dialogue to push for recognition of a child’s right to a healthy environment. This project is aligned with the North American Virtual Consultation on Children’s Right to a Healthy Environment which will inform the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and the Environment.
