Carmen Larsen

Summary
Carmen joined the Centre for Teaching and Educational Technologies (CTET) as an Instructional Designer in January 2025 and is a liaison for the School of Leadership Studies and the Global Learning and Language Centre. Carmen’s current areas of interest include neuroscience and learning, culturally relevant education (CRE), impacts of AI on learning, and Indigenizing higher education.
Experience
Carmen began her career in adult education over 25 years ago and has experience as a teacher, educational developer, curriculum consultant and instructional designer. She loves the challenges and rewards of facilitating learning to diverse groups of adults whether it’s teaching her own courses, offering workshops to faculty, or designing online learning spaces. Carmen taught post-secondary courses in English and education for over a decade before further pursuing her interests in curriculum and online learning design. As a curriculum consultant, Carmen led program and course development and renewal projects, teaching faculty curriculum design best practices and encouraging inclusive, learner-centred and culturally relevant pedagogical practices. In her instructional design role, she is keen to collaborate with faculty on Indigenizing courses and programs and exploring the possibilities of AI in education.
