Attendance at Warwick Summer Summer School of Practice-Based Studies

Dr. Zidulka was awarded a Research and Professional Development grant the examine the use of practice theory, as a theoretical lens, in the social sciences and its current limitations in research.

An increasing number of social science researchers have been drawn to practice theory (PT), as a theoretical lens, due its ability to theorize flux and change, account for the role of the material world, and analyze the workings of power. However, adopting PT means navigating a fair degree of complexity since, while it is theoretically compelling, it is also relatively young, and so is methodologically “still under-conceptualised and underdeveloped” (Reich et al., 2013, p. 10). This grant will help me advance my knowledge of this theoretical lens, so that I can apply it in future research.
