Applied Research in Doctoral Education

Dr. Wafai was awarded a Research and Professional Development grant to research the production of innovative research from doctoral education using the theories and models of management areas.

The landscape of doctoral education is changing. Doctoral students are expected, primarily through doctoral programs, to produce innovative research that contributes to the advancement of both theories and practices. The heavily reliance on incremental, discipline-based, and gap-spotting approach has been criticized as a barrier for high impact and innovative research. This research aims at examining the nature of innovative research practices in doctoral educations using the theories and models from innovation management areas.
