The academy and gendered harassment: Individual, peer and institutional support and coping in harsh online environments.

Drs. Hodson and Veletsianos was granted Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council funds to deliver a workshop on communicating and building solutions to the problem of online harassment.

This workshop uses a hackathon style methodology to mobilize knowledge about the online harassment of academics. We will be delivering this workshop to an international community at the Association of Internet Researchers annual conference. First we will communicate the findings of our multi-year research program to the community, and then participants will work together to come up with innovative solutions to the problem of online harassment. This applied research approach aims to inspire changes to academic structures and practices to encourage better support for those academics who experience online harassment in the course of their research and teaching work.
