Global Changemaker

Award description

Recognizing an international alum who is driving systemic change in the world. 

Selection criteria

1. International alum residing outside of Canada. 
2. Evidence of significant impact on global issues and/or communities. 
3. Demonstrated leadership in implementing sustainable solutions or initiatives to complex challenges. 
4. Demonstrated influence on policy changes or advocacy efforts at an international level. 
5. Demonstrated collaborative efforts fostering cross-cultural understanding and cooperation. 

Distinguished Changemaker

Award description

Recognizing an alum who exemplifies a lifetime achievement of leading change in the world.

Selection criteria

1. Demonstrated long-term dedication to a cause or initiative. 
2. Track record of significant achievements and milestones throughout their career. 
3. Recognition from peers, organizations, or the wider community for their contributions. 
4. Sustained efforts in mentorship and/or inspiring others to effect change. 

Emerging Changemaker

Award description

Recognizing an alum early in their career who is motivating change within their circles of influence.

Selection criteria

1. Graduate of Royal Roads within the past three (3) years.
2. Evidence of innovative approaches or initiatives addressing pressing issues.
3. Demonstrated leadership potential and ability to inspire others.
4. Impact on their respective field or community, despite being in the early stages of their career.
5. Potential for continued growth and influence in driving positive change.

Community Changemaker

Award description

Recognizing an alum who is leading systemic community change.

Selection criteria

1. Tangible outcomes or improvements resulting from their efforts within the local community.
2. Collaborative initiatives or partnerships with local stakeholders.
3. Demonstrated commitment to addressing local social, environmental, and/or economic challenges.
4. Demonstrated ability to empower local community members and fostering inclusivity and diversity.

Eligibility

• Nominations are open to all Royal Roads University alumni who have received a degree or graduate certificate, as well as graduates of the former Royal Roads Naval, Tri-Services and Military Colleges.
• Self-nominations and posthumous nominations will not be accepted.
• Members of a political office are not eligible to receive an award during their term. Once the individual no longer holds an elected or appointed position in political office they are eligible.
• Alumni who have received an Honorary Degree from RRU are not eligible.  
• Awards are given once per lifetime.    

Timing and selection procedures

• Nominations will be accepted starting September 15, 2025 and will close on November 16, 2025.
• The Selection Committee will review all applicants and advise the award recipients by mid-to late-January 2026.   
• Nominations from community members, alumni nominating other alumni, RRU faculty and staff will be accepted.  
• Once approved by the Selection Committee, nominations will be active for two years.  Successful nominees will be informed by the Selection Committee and nominators will only receive an update on the status of their nomination at this stage.    
• Awards will not be granted in absentia and will be presented as part of the RRU Alumni Weekend, occurring the first week of May each year.
