Kate Chandler
Member
Accessibility Committee
Kate is a staff member at Royal Roads with a lifelong passion for widening the infrastructure of society to include people with disabilities.
A believer in the social model of disability, which locates disability in social norms rather than individuals, Kate has firsthand experience with both inclusion and exclusion. As a student with hearing loss, Kate contributed to the normalization of FM systems and captioned videos. As a staff member with hearing loss, Kate has collaborated with technical experts to remove hearing-related barriers at staff events.
Kate holds a dual Master of Archival Studies and Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of British Columbia. Her work as a records management professional means she brings an analytical and collaborative mindset to the committee.
Thanks to an extensive reading habit, Kate has some awareness of barriers unrelated to hearing loss; she is excited to join the committee and learn more. In addition to reading, Kate likes drawing and riding her bike to work on the Galloping Goose bicycle trail.
