At Royal Roads University, we know everyone has something to share and there’s huge value in open discussions. Our online and on-campus programs create an environment where everyone works together to achieve success.
At RRU, you learn from everyone in your program – not just your instructors.

Take this opportunity to connect with staff, students and alumni. Find out how our blended learning model—online with short on-campus residencies— enables you to get an education without having to put your life on hold.
This general information session covers a broad range of topics – please join us, and bring your questions with you. We’d like to show you how Royal Roads University is Life.Changing.

Following a brief overview of Royal Roads will be a dynamic presentation by Dr. Jaigris Hodson, Associate Professor from the School of Interdisciplinary Studies, titled:

Communicating Reason in an Unreasonable time: Information in an Age of Trump and Brexit

Since the introduction of social media, it has become increasingly difficult to decipher what is real versus what is fake news, misinformation or disinformation. Conventional methods of  communication no longer work. Understanding what constitutes as fake news, and how to think more critically with the information you come in contact with every day, will empower you to better recognize misinformation in your daily life; however, developing new ways to reach people may still be required for professional, political, and research communicators.

In this learning symposium, participants will discuss the challenges of communicating truth or “reason” in this new information environment. Dr. Hodson will use science communication as a case study to show how people can understand truth in a time of misinformation and information overload. This presentation will also offer recommendations for, how to tell stories that resonate with the audience to ensure more effective communication.

Join us in Ottawa on Wednesday, November 28th at The Ottawa Marriott at 6 pm to see our difference in action. Bring a friend and join the conversation!
