Job scams
With the world turning to technology for networking purposes, job postings, application processes and virtual interviews, it is important to use the online tools available to build your professional connections and career paths.
You also need to be vigilant to the possibility of being the target of scam recruiters and job offers. Just because a new connection has a website or LinkedIn profile does not necessarily mean they are legitimate.
The most important thing to remember is to trust your instinct. If something doesn’t seem right or feels too good to be true, trust that instinct! Always do your due diligence:
- research both the person and the company
- ensure the person is not impersonating someone else
- do not give out any personal information (bank number, social insurance number, date of birth etc.) at any time during your application and interview process
Personal safety: if you fear you have submitted your personal information to a scam, contact your local police immediately.
