This course focuses on the initiatives that Indigenous Nations have taken to design their own impact assessment processes. It will cover the federal and provincial impact legislation and procedures and will identify the limitation of those processes and failure to protect Indigenous lands, resources, and rights. It will look at the ways different nations have introduced their own assessment processes to incorporate cumulative impacts and other long-term impacts of development on Indigenous lands and waters.
