International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) Certificate

An International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) Certificates is available to students in the Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Management (MAELM) and Master of Arts in Learning and Technology (MALAT) programs.

To demonstrate the exceptional education you have earned at Royal Roads University, students enrolling in the MAELM at Royal Roads University can apply to obtain an International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) Educator’s Certificate, recognized around the world.

An IBO credential shows your organization that you are an innovative leader who is well-versed in the leadership opportunities and issues within IB schools. You will have access to a unique enrolment pathway, available only to IBO educators, and the opportunity to explore future professional and research opportunities with the IBO. As well, IBO Certification provides additional opportunities through the IBO Online Curriculum Centre (OCC), where you will find discussion forums and resources available only to IBO members.

Students enrolling in the MAELM program may be eligible to receive the following IBO certificate:

IBO Advanced Certificate in Leadership Research

By receiving this designation, you will have shown a profound understanding of IBO leadership requirements and responsibilities and demonstrated your ability to complete rigorous investigative work, including research within the IBO leadership context, as well as an introspective examination of personal leadership practices. This advanced certificate is most appropriate for existing and experienced IB school administrators.

How to apply

When you complete the personal statement in your application for the MAELM program, please describe your interest in the IBO Advanced Certificate in Leadership Research and its relevance to your professional experience and goals for the future. During the on-campus residency in the summer there will be time set aside to register with the IBO and obtain access to their network and resources. You will be expected to complete IB-specific readings and assignments during your program, as well as IB-related research topics, but you will maintain a workload equivalent to the students in your program who have opted not to pursue this distinction.
