Les Fisher teaches in the Master of Arts in Leadership (Health Specialization) program. After being a student in this program from 2004 to 2006, he kept his learning alive by sponsoring leadership challenges, engaging with learners he sponsored, and eventually supervising organizational leadership projects. In 2011, he began as Associate Faculty in the School of Leadership Studies. One specific interest Les has within this program is to use his professional experience to aid learners to see how their learning can be applied. In addition, he likes to ensure that healthcare leaders see the entire healthcare system, including prehospital and interfacility care, so leadership actions can be taken with a larger system view.
Experience
Les’ professional background includes over 45 years in Paramedic Services. He is currently Managing Director and Chief of Emergency Health Services – Alberta, leading over 5000 professionals and managing a budget over $1B. Prior to this role, and previous roles in the organization, Les was the Director of Quality, Safety, and the Emergency Link Centre for STARS Air Ambulance. Prior to that, he spent 34 years with the British Columbia Ambulance Service, with roles from paramedic to Chief Operating Officer.
